Preparing yourself for a Sound Healing Session
If you are new to Sound Healing you may not be familiar with the best ways to prepare for a session. Even if you have experienced a sound healing before you may not have been informed of such ways. So it is my hope that the information below will be helpful for both new and experienced attendees.
These notes are intended to assist you in getting the most out of your session. Much of it is common sense, however, we as humans can simply get caught up in our daily activities. So much so that we often forget to consider such things in advance. No worries though, life happens. And through it all we do our best to take care and prepare.
Some Questions People Ask:
- Can I keep my phone with me during a session? You will be invited to switch it to Airplane Mode. It’s preferable to shut your devices off completely during the session and store them away from the body.
- Is it best to eat before or after the session? We would recommend eating something light prior to a session and a larger meal following. A heavy meal prior to the session means much of the body’s energy will be focused on digestion. This is not advised.
-Is there anything that I should bring to a session? Aside from your essential personal belongings, nothing extra is required. We will provide cold drinking water and a sarong if you get chilled during a session. You may want to write down your experience after the session or any insights that you receive. If this is the case, then you’re welcome to bring along your personal journal and pen.
- How should I dress for a Session with me? Wear modest, comfortable clothing. We ask that you take off metal belts or piercings that may interfere when a singing bowl is placed on the body. Crystal jewelry and watches should also be removed during the session.
Other Recommendations:
One of the most important ways to prepare is to drink plenty of water on the day of the session and if possible during the days leading up to a session. Sound waves travel faster through water than air. So the more hydrated you are, the more easily the frequencies will have a deeply penetrating effect. Please refrain from drinking alcohol or coffee prior to the session. These beverages are dehydrating. They affect our physiological systems in a way that is counterproductive and not in alignment with the results which we are seeking.
Activities such as yoga, tai chi, or qigong are helpful prior to a session as they help move energy throughout the body and calm the mind. Relaxation and balance within the body, mind, and spirit can be restored, bringing you into a more open and receptive state. Body massage is also beneficial prior to the session in order to relieve stress and muscle tension
Kindly arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of the session. Giving yourself some ‘breathing room’ will help you enter the space in a more relaxed manner. In the event of a group gong bath we wish to ensure the best possible experience for all those who attend. Therefore, we ask that you please use the restroom prior to the session. We discourage guests from getting up during a group sound healing session unless it’s an ‘emergency.’
With regards to a private session, it’s important to know what issue you would like to work on as well as the desired outcome. All of this will be helpful for me when considering how to best approach the session.
Coming to the session with an open mind, the desire for well-being, and readiness for change is also very important. Meditation prior to a session is an excellent way to prepare while also asking for spiritual guidance and support.
